Press Release Body = ALISO VIEJO, Calif. Feb. 14, 2006 - Quest Software Inc. (Nasdaq: QSFT), a leading provider of application, database and infrastructure management solutions, today announced its plans to offer solutions to help IT professionals track, understand and control their Microsoft SharePoint-based infrastructure. The first product, available for download at no cost, is an automated discovery wizard that identifies and reports on an organization's entire SharePoint environment.
This is the first stage of Quest's plan to provide broad functionality to support Microsoft SharePoint Products and Technologies. Later this year, Quest plans to introduce capabilities to deliver robust management and reporting, support Microsoft Exchange Public Folders-to-Microsoft SharePoint-based migration and provide granular content recovery. These capabilities are being designed to provide IT stakeholders with optimal management, reporting, and control of their SharePoint-based resources.
"Because SharePoint Products and Technologies are so easy to use, employees are collaborating more than ever," said David Waugh, vice president, product management, Quest Software. "They're creating their own Web sites where they post documents, share information and exchange ideas - all without the assistance of IT. According to Gartner, in 2004 Microsoft's worldwide portal product market share grew 150% based on new license revenue.1 While this growth is a great testament to the value SharePoint technologies provide, until now, IT has not had an efficient and cost-effective way to compile information about SharePoint usage across the whole organization. The first step in managing any piece of infrastructure is identifying what exists, where it exists and how it's being used."
Quest® Discovery Wizard for SharePoint quickly and automatically searches all servers, site collections and sites within an organization's network for every installation of SharePoint, allows users to explore their SharePoint resources by browsing through sites and portal content, and gathers critical data about the discovered inventory. The product also generates easy-to-read HTML reports - providing the information IT managers need in an actionable format. These reports contain server metrics and site details, including site size, author, last modification date and how many users access information on the sites.
"Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services and SharePoint Portal Server 2003 enable enterprises to seamlessly connect users, teams and knowledge so that people can take advantage of relevant information across business processes to help them work more efficiently," said Seth Patton, group product manager, Information Worker Group at Microsoft. "SharePoint is fast becoming an industry standard, and we are pleased to see Quest Software adding even more value to the Microsoft collaboration platform."
Pricing and Availability Quest Discovery Wizard for SharePoint is available now for download at no cost. For more information on Quest's upcoming SharePoint-based products, join our SharePoint discussion community or download the Discovery Wizard at http://www.quest.com/sharepoint.
